We arrived on Friday evening, and the host was drinking in the guest lounge with another couple who were staying at Tara House. It was clear at that point that he had had a reasonable amount to drink. He invited us to join them, and offered us a glass of wine. We sat and chatted with the host and other guests, and enjoyed the conversation, which was interesting and wide-ranging. However, as the evening went on, and more alcohol was consumed, the host became more and more condescending and belligerent. After a couple of hours of chat, my partner and I made comments which were borderline political. The host then told me to "Shut the f*** up", and when I attempted to speak again he repeatedly cut me off. The attack was completely unprovoked; my partner and I had been polite and friendly at all times during the conversation. I was extremely distressed and upset, and left the room immediately. My partner and I discussed leaving Tara House immediately, but it was nearly midnight and we had no way of being sure we would find alternative accommodation. When my partner confronted the owner the following morning, it became apparent that the owner had been so drunk he didn't even remember the incident. He apologised, and said he would not charge us for the room. However, we arrived home on Sunday to find that he had, indeed, charged our credit card. I would recommend that other travellers stay as far away from Tara House as possible. The owner was not only unpleasant and aggressive when drunk, he was a liar when sober.
